Brownies is always packed with fun and there is always masses happening. You may do things as a whole Pack, or with your Six. Brownies decide what they are going to do in a Pow-wow. This is when everyone in the Pack talks about their ideas and make plans.
There is so much to tell you about Brownies that it doesn't fit in one webpage. So once you have read this page you may want to look at More about Brownies to find out about Brownie wear and the Brownie Promise and law. You could also take a look at Brownie songs to see the songs we sometimes sing at the beginning and end of our meetings.
At Brownies we have sixes. These are groups of 4-6 girls that we sometimes do activities in and play games. The leader of a six is called a sixer and the next leader is called a second - she helps the sixer make decisions and becomes the sixer when the sixer is away. The sixes we have chosen to have in our unit are:
|
Moles
|
Badgers
|
|
Hedgehogs

Fox's

As Brownies, we enjoy going away for a sleepover or Brownie holiday. Last year we went on hoiday to Weyside.
On Brownie holiday we have theme for whilst we are there. Last time we had Little Miss and Mr Men. We went grass sledging and sewed Mr Men. On Saturday afternoon we had a wide game where we did lots of different activities such as crawling under string with snakes on and hunting in the dark toilets for Little Miss and Mr Men.
Next holiday - Feb 08
|
On Brownie holiday we also name our sixes, last time we had Naughties, Splendeds and Birthdays. These sixes are different from the ones we have every week at Brownies and we also have a new sixer.
In our sixes we do duties. This means we get to go in the kitchen and help with the cooking. We lay the table for meals and help with the cleaning - we even enjoy cleaning the toilets!

At Brownies we sometimes work towards badges. There is a wide variety and we choose which ones we want to do. We sew our badges onto our sash or gillet.
We have got our Home Skills badge, for this we are going to found out about the coloured buttons for the blind. We played washing our clothes, sorting them into different categories and pretending to wash and iron them.
Ladybird keeps a record of which badges we do and which clauses from the badges so at Browni
es one term we may make a puppet, another term make a board game so we only have one thing left to do for our badge. Ladybird tells us what needs doing and if we want the badge then we finish it off at home.
We can also do badges at home in our spare time and bring them in to be tested. For example we may start our artist badge then bring in the paintings and pictures to show our leaders. Sometimes we need to ask someone else to test us for our badge such as our swimming badge - our swimming teacher can sign us off to say we have done the badge.
Our Brownies pay £25 subs per term. However if you feel you are unable to afford this amount please talk to a leader who will be able to sort out an agreement with you on the cost. Our Brownie subs cover the cost of census each year which includes our insurance and we provide the girls with all the books they need such as the badge book. We also subsidise trips out of the meeting place such as the trip to the pick and mix at the end of this term and the science fun day.
Other units may pay different amounts as it depends how much the hall costs and the activities that they do. Some also charge extra for the census which is around £20and/or charge a joining fee which coves the cost of the books.
